Get Healthy and Falls Prevention Project – workshops helping to keep residents fit and healthy

Sessions funded by Sanctuary Housing have been providing older people in Rochford and Rayleigh with top tips on nutrition and hydration as well as health advice.

They are also being encouraged to try new activities by joining local groups and clubs.

In addition, residents have also been learning how to prevent falls and reduce the risk of injury in their homes.

Rayleigh, Rochford and District Association for Voluntary Service (RRAVS) facilitated the workshops, run by Prosper, which is a collaboration between Essex County Council and the Anglia Ruskin Health Partnership.

Workshops have taken place at local schemes, including Millview Court in Rochford, and there are plans to roll them out to others in the near future.

Chris Silvey, Sanctuary’s resident involvement officer, said: “Keeping active is an important element of a healthy lifestyle and it is great to see the positive impact these courses have had on our residents.”

Victoria Marzouki, partnerships & development manager at RRAVS, commented: “The sessions are both informative and informal and we are looking forward to delivering even more of them for local people in 2018.”

This project was funded by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
